Coaching

is about “unlocking a person’s potential to maximise their own performance. It is “helping them to learn rather than teaching them,” (Gallwey, 1975)
The term coaching itself is used in a variety of ways – all of which go to help people get confused about what it is! In solution focused terms I work with someone to identify where they want to get to, evaluating where they are now and look at small steps that they can take to reach their goals in order to “unlock their potential”
My belief is that we all have strengths (if you are not sure you have go take a look at www.viame.org to identify yours! ) and that in helping you identify what works for you things can get better.
The phrase I use most is perhaps this:
So in essence
..... we identify what works ( in a long and lasting way) and you do more of that – which means you naturally reduce how often you do things that do not really work for you.
We do not need to dwell on the past to discover the solutions although we can dip in to find times that things used to work – you are in control of how you react in the here and now regardless of the things that have kick started you in the direction you are going now.
